Frequently asked questions

What kind of sentences does Zapp understand?

Type it the way you’d say it. The order doesn’t matter much. A few examples Zapp handles reliably:

  • “tomorrow at 3pm dentist”: tomorrow, 3:00 pm, title “Dentist”
  • “Dentist Friday 3pm at Dr. Smith”: Friday, 3:00 pm, location “Dr. Smith”
  • “friday from 2pm to 4pm workshop”: Friday, 2 to 4 pm
  • “today 2pm call for 45 minutes”: today, 2:00 pm, 45 minutes long
  • “every wednesday 6pm yoga”: every Wednesday at 6 pm
  • “every 1st of month rent”: monthly on the 1st
  • “meeting tomorrow at 2pm remind me 15 min before”: reminder 15 minutes before
  • “dec 24 all day christmas eve”: all-day event

Several lines turn into several events.

What doesn’t work so well yet?

Spoken times like “half past ten” or “quarter to ten” aren’t recognized yet. Write “10:30am” or “9:45am” instead, and add am or pm to times like “2:30”. Zapp doesn’t fix typos in the title: “Dentst” stays “Dentst”. Take a quick look at the event before saving. You can change any field by hand.

Which languages does Zapp understand?

English and German. Zapp follows your iPhone’s language: if it’s German, the German rules apply, otherwise the English ones. Dates and times are recognized in both languages, whichever is set. The app itself is available in English and German.

Does Zapp use AI?

No. No language model, no cloud. Zapp reads your sentences with fixed rules, right on your iPhone.

Why does Zapp want access to my calendar?

To save your events. With full access, Zapp can also show you your calendars to choose from, spot overlaps, and show free time slots in the widgets. iOS usually asks the first time you save. You can change this at any time in the iOS Settings under “Privacy & Security” → “Calendars”. If you only allow adding events, Zapp can still save, but it can’t show your calendars to choose from or check for overlaps.

Which calendar does my event go to?

Your iOS default calendar, or the one you set as “Preferred calendar” in Zapp’s settings. With “Smart Defaults” turned on, Zapp remembers which calendar, duration and reminder you use for a given title. With Zapp Pro you can pick the calendar per event, or name it in your sentence: “Dentist tomorrow 3pm private” goes to your “Private” calendar, if you have one.

Is there a widget?

Yes, three:

  • Zapp Input (small and medium) opens Zapp ready to type and shows your most recently created events.
  • Next free slot (small and medium, large with Zapp Pro) shows free time slots in your calendar.
  • Next free slot for the Lock Screen shows your next free time slot.

Add them like any other widget by long-pressing the Home Screen or Lock Screen. Free time slots need full calendar access.

What is Zapp Pro?

A one-time in-app purchase, not a subscription. You’ll see the price in the app before buying. Zapp Pro unlocks:

  • naming a calendar in your sentence, Zapp switches automatically
  • picking a calendar per event
  • the large widget
  • overlap checks across all calendars, not just the chosen one

Everything else, including the full sentence recognition, is free.

I bought Zapp Pro, but it isn’t unlocked.

Zapp checks at launch whether your Apple ID has a purchase. On a new iPhone, being signed in with the same Apple ID is usually enough. If not: open Settings in Zapp, tap “Upgrade to Pro”, then choose “Restore purchases”.

Can I get a refund for Zapp Pro?

Payment and refunds are handled entirely by Apple. Request a refund from Apple, not from me.

What happens to my data?

It stays on your iPhone. Zapp has no server, no account and no tracking. Events go straight into Apple Calendar, which syncs via iCloud if you’ve set that up. That’s Apple’s mechanism, not mine. Zapp stores settings, inbox drafts and learned preferences locally. More in the privacy policy.

Zapp got a sentence wrong.

That helps me improve the recognition. Send me an email with:

  • the sentence, exactly as you typed it,
  • what Zapp made of it and what you expected,
  • your iPhone’s language.

Feel free to swap personal details for placeholders, as long as the rest of the sentence stays the same.
